Kirkwood Mountain Resort Day Trip

A day trip (for all!) to Kirkwood Mountain Resort is scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday and is dependent on us car pooling from our resort.

Day trip to Kirkwood Mountain Resort includes the following:

Downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing

Location:  Kirkwood Mountain Resort is about one hour drive (35 miles) from Lakeland Village, South Lake Tahoe.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort is one of Lake Tahoe’s premier ski resorts. The resort offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

The Epic Ski Pass is good here for downhill skiing. For more information about the Epic Ski Pass visit or visit a separate posting in this blog titled “Epic Pass”

Downhill skiing at Kirkwood Mountain Resort

Slopes for skiers of all ability levels. Steep chutes, powder-filled open bowls and numerous runs with varying terrain. Twelve lifts and over 68 runs to choose from. The 2,300 acres of skiable terrain is 15% beginner, 50% intermediate, 20% advanced and 15% expert.

Cross country skiing and Snowshoeing at The Kirkwood Cross Country & Snowshoe Center

Located ¼ mile east of Kirkwood Ski Resort on Highway 88, this winter activity center is nestled in a beautiful alpine valley.

Kirkwood combines outdoor adventure with environmental awareness. Many of the 60 kilometers of cross country ski trails feature interpretive signs. Rest by a wood-burning stove in the cozy day lodge, or warm up in one of the many trail side warming huts. You can snowshoe on the entire cross-country trail system. A snowshoeing lesson is offered each day at 11am and cross country ski lesson at 10am. The lessons are included in the trail and rental price for the day.

For cross-country skiing and snowshoeing information, instruction and equipment rentals, visit the weblink below or call the Cross-Country Center (209-258-7248)

Depart from our lodgings (pooled cars) at Lakeland Village at about 8:30am. Be sure and pack a lunch with brown bag lunch fixings provided at breakfast. After a beautiful drive climbing mountain roads, those who will be cross-country and/or snowshoeing for the day will be dropped off at The Kirkwood Cross Country & Snowshoe Center which is just outside the entrance to the Kirkwood Ski Resort. The rest of our group will continue to the Mountain Village, the main base of the mountain, where they will be skiing from the rest of the day.

We suggest cross country skiers join with the skiers in our group, for lunch at the main ski lodge in the Mountain Village. It is an easy cross country ski trek across the large meadow that lies between the Mountain Village and the Cross Country & Snowshoe Center.

At the end of the day skiers and Cross Country skiers will be picked up at designated places at Kirkwood Mountain.

We will return to our lodgings at Lakeland Village about 6pm.
